In Alberta, the agriculture sector plays a significant role in the regional economy; data released in 2020 indicates it represents more than two per cent of the province’s gross domestic product and two per cent of employment share, with more than 42,500 Albertans working in an ag-related field.
Credit unions know better than most the importance of ag in this province, with most Alberta credit unions offering products and services specifically tailored to the unique needs of ag-based small businesses.
A report out of the University of Regina, released in 2020, indicated that women represent approximately 20% of individuals working in agriculture nationwide, however, many face challenges and barriers to participation for reasons that include insufficient access to capital and financing.
So that’s why we are happy to announce the new Women in Ag Grant, brought to you by the Credit Unions of Alberta.
The Women in Ag Grant provides an opportunity for Alberta-based women who are currently working or planning to work in the agriculture industry to apply for funding to put towards their ag business’ financial future.
Two grants of $10,000 will be awarded to two individuals or businesses; apply between June 12th and July 5th, 2023 for your chance to grow your ag dreams!
