The ABCU Community Charitable Foundation announced the recipients of its annual donation program, providing $25,000 to five charities:
- Leduc & District Food Bank with a special focus to provide short-term assistance to Leduc and the area, including Beaumont;
- Edmonton Food Bank with a special focus on short term assistance to the City of Edmonton;
- Afghan Women’s Organization Refugee and Immigrant Services with a special focus on women and their families;
- Reconciliation Canada who carries out its work from the unceded territory of the Skwxwu’7mesh (Squamish) Nation; and
- The Robin Hood Association who provides high quality and innovative services to children and adults with developmental disabilities.
The ABCU Charitable Foundation reviews and supports requests that assist a vibrant and healthy community for youth, health, financial literacy, environment, seniors, arts, and culture.
The Leduc & District Food Bank provides services with a special focus to provide short-term assistance to Leduc and area residents, including Beaumont. The Edmonton Food Bank provides services with a special focus on short term assistance to Edmonton residents. The AWO provides services, with a special focus on women, their families, refugees, and people who have experienced war and persecution. “The work that AWO does to help newcomers learn about Canada aligns with ABCU’s Foundation pillars. We are pleased to support this important initiative”, said Chair Zac White.
Reconciliation Canada is leading the way in engaging Canadians in dialogue and transformative experiences that revitalize the relationships among Indigenous peoples and all Canadians. “The opportunity to build a shared future and mutual understanding is fundamental to achieving genuine reconciliation between Indigenous people and all Canadians” says Foundation Board member, Richard Colwell.
The Robin Hood Association has a 57-year history of service excellence in supporting adults and children with disabilities. “In these uncertain times, we hope to help those through this difficult time and ask others to join us in these efforts”, said Chair Zac White.
About Leduc & District Food Bank (LDFB): The LDFD is a community driven and supported organization that relies on community donations and volunteer support to provide short term assistance to approximately 85,000 people.
About the Edmonton Food Bank: In 1981, the Edmonton Gleaners Association, more commonly known as Edmonton’s Food Bank, received its official charter of incorporation and Canada’s first food bank was born. The facility is centrally located and accessible to the entire City. Over 4 million kilograms of food come and go out of the facility each year.
About Afghan Women’s Organization (AWO) The AWO provides settlement services to all newcomers, with a special focus on women and their families. To meet the ever-changing needs of newcomers our programming includes a range of activities that have resulted in more women and their families having access to and interactions with their network of peers and an increased involvement in their communities.
About Reconciliation Canada: Through the development of meaningful partnerships and community outreach programs, Reconciliation Canada has delivered a series of Reconciliation Dialogue Workshops across Canada, hosted events during Reconciliation Week in September 2013, including the Walk for Reconciliation engaging 70,000 people in Downtown Vancouver, and co-hosted events in Ottawa and Vancouver to coincide with the closing of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
About Robin Hood Association: Formed in 1963, Robin Hood Association is a non- profit, registered, charitable organization and the primary provider of services to children and adults with developmental disabilities in Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, and surrounding areas. Our organization is made up of families and friends of people with disabilities. We currently serve approximately 350 adults and 350 children and their families.
