We are thrilled to announce our three winners of our first-ever Class of 2020: Own your financial future contest
Join us in congratulating Kwasi Oteng from St. Francis High School, Ksenia Pankratyeva from McNally High School and Vivian Tran from Archbishop MacDonald High School. The three winners each received $2,000 deposited into an account with their local credit union.
“Winning this contest has allowed me to cover some of the costs toward university tuition and help alleviate any stress of having to borrow student loans,” said Tran, one of the winning graduates. “It has given me the opportunity to expand on my small business and allows me to work while doing something I love: creating art.”
Oteng shared his plans to pursue his Bachelor of Business at Mount Royal University in Calgary, pay soccer fees and donate a portion of the funds towards battling heart disease. Pankratyeva’s submission centred around her passion of receiving an education in music and her dedication of time and money to women’s shelters.
“Winning this contest brings me one step closer to achieving my goals in music and as a community advocate,” said Pankratyeva. “This gift has given me a helpful boost into accomplishing the dreams I have without having to limit myself.”

What would you do with $2,000? Would you invest it, start a business, support a cause or start paying off loans? The choice is yours with Class of 2020: Own Your Financial Future contest by Credit Unions of Alberta.
To support graduating high school students through these present-day challenges, Alberta’s credit unions want to help new grads by providing them with a financial boost before beginning their journey in post-secondary schooling or the profession of their choosing.
Starting June 24, high school graduates across Alberta can submit a short video via Instagram for a chance to win one of three $2,000 prizes to put towards owning their financial future.
To enter the giveaway, post an Instagram feed video (up to a minute long) of yourself demonstrating what you would do with $2,000. Three winners will be selected by a Credit Unions of Alberta advisory committee based on the following criteria:
- Innovation – Credit unions have been leaders in financial innovation for decades. How will you push limits and innovate to make waves as a leader of tomorrow?
- Championing Change – Alberta credit unions contribute millions of dollars to their communities each year. How do you plan on championing change in your community to create a brighter future for generations to come?
- Creativity – Show us your creative side! Whether through engaging videography, cutting edge graphics, snappy dialogue or more, we want you to think outside the box to demonstrate how you plan to own your financial future with support from Alberta’s credit unions.
To be eligible, participants must be graduating from their senior year of high school in Alberta in 2020 and must currently reside in Alberta.
Participants must post their video submissions to the Instagram feed (not stories or IGTV), follow and tag @abcreditunions and include the following contest hashtags: #CUOwnIt #Classof2020 #MeetYouIRL

Participants must also be willing to have their video contest submissions shared publicly across Credit Unions of Alberta’s social media channels and those of its co-operative credit union institutions.
Winners must be willing to provide their full name, the name of their high school and a quote about the contest to Credit Unions of Alberta that can be shared with partners and/or publicly. Each winner will have $2,000 deposited into a chequing or savings account with their local credit union.
