In April 2018, big changes came to the small community of Airdrie, just outside Calgary. A new and modern branch for Bow Valley Credit Union opened in the Cooper’s Town shopping promenade.
What’s so exciting about a new branch?
Well, this is no ordinary location. With a sleek and modern design, open concept (that still respects member privacy) and welcoming environment, it sets a new standard for financial services. Members walk in and are greeted by a self-serve iPad banking station next to a lounge and refreshment area. The branch even offers a community room available for local businesses and non-profits to use when they need bigger meeting space.
The branch opened on the heels of a brand refresh initiative for Bow Valley Credit Union. Their new tagline, Growing Together, represents every aspect of the company. “We’re not just growing the financial futures of members, from small businesses to non-profit organizations. We’re also growing as an organization and as individuals who work here,” said Mira Monagen, Chief Operations Officer with Bow Valley Credit Union.
Word of mouth has spread quickly about the new location. In just under a year, the Airdrie Cooper’s Town branch doubled their membership growth. The member service and marketing teams continued to embrace change in how they approached promoting the new location, with hyper-localized direct marketing, collaboration with the Cooper’s Town Promenade complex and by getting involved in local events.
“There’s a real commitment to community support and involvement from the branch team,” said Mira. “We’ve been involved in over two dozen local initiatives since opening, everything from the Airdrie Festival of Lights to the Home and Lifestyle show.”
This innovative approach to branch design, marketing and community involvement is getting Bow Valley some great results, with a significant increase in deposit and retail credit growth, as well as double the applications for credit cards and wealth partnerships over the last year. But it also represents the future.
Credit unions have always been leaders in innovation, from offering the first loans to women in their own name in 1961 to being the first to offer mobile pay in Canada in 2016. Bow Valley Credit Union’s new Cooper’s Town branch represents the next step in that evolution to offer more to make member lives better.
“The great achievements of this new branch show us we’re on the right track as we work to enhance all member interactions,” said Mira. “We’re committed to always providing excellent member service, and this is just another way we can deliver on that promise.”
